Last night I served the cakes shown here at a ladies Bible study. All in all, they were warmly received. We only have one small plate with both varieties on it leftover. The whipped-cream-filled-ganache-covered chocolate cake was the clear favorite though. It just can’t be beat if you’re a chocolate lover. I decided that my first attempt at 4-egg yellow cake was good but something still tastes better when Mom makes it. Also, I served both cakes when they were very cold. When I got home I tried the yellow cake again and enjoyed the butter cream frosting much more when it was smooth and not so sturdy. So, I’d recommend letting the cakes sit on the counter for awhile before serving. I thought you could taste more at room temperature. I think I’ll need to sample both again tonight.

On an unrelated note, I think I’ll become a Detroit Lions fan now that they have drafted Ndamukong Suh. Who knows, maybe he’ll dominate and rejuvenate that sad, sad team?
